Bryan Wilbanks is the Vice Department Chair and Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing

Dr. Wilbanks is an experienced nurse anesthetist and nurse scientist whose primary areas of impact include anesthesia health policy and systems research as well as the human factors and usability of information technology in the perioperative period. The findings of these studies are being used to inform changes in perioperative policies and procedures to improve patient mortality and safety. His recent findings have pioneered work that merges quantitative and narrative data from anesthesia-related closed claims lawsuits to discover the antecedents and consequences of perioperative errors. The results were used to develop and implement policy recommendations to mitigate their effect on patient care. Over the course of Dr. Wilbanks’ career, he has actively contributed to advancing the science of anesthesia through sponsored research and service at the national level to the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist Foundation Board of Trustees.

Dr. Wilbanks received his BSN from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, his MSN from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and both his PhD and DNP from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
