John M. O'Donnell is Professor and Chair of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia and Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He also serves as Senior Associate Director at the Winter Institute for Simulation Education and Research (WISER) which is a fully accredited, internationally renowned simulation center. Dr. O’Donnell was honored as a Fellow of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in 2019 and he currently serves as Treasurer and on the Executive Board. In 2021, O’Donnell was also named to the inaugural Fellows Class of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA). John serves as Chair of the WISER Research and Scholarship Committee, is PI of the WISER Umbrella IRB and has been widely published. He consults nationally and internationally collaborating with colleagues in Beijing, Wuhan, Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, Bangkok and Tokyo in faculty development and simulation scholarship. He has served as PI of multiple educational and research grants receiving more than 3.5 million dollars in funding. In 2017, he co-founded Lumis Corp. an augmented reality simulation education company and serves as Director of Curriculum Development and Customer Engagement.

Dr. O’Donnell earned a BSN from Carlow University and MSN and DrPH from the University of Pittsburgh.
