Nicoleta Mitrea is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Education and Development – Nursing at the University of Transilvania of Brasov & Hospice Casa Sperantei (HCS). Dr. Mitrea is the leader of palliative nursing practice, education, research and policy change for Central-Eastern Europe. She began her nursing career in paediatrics, moving into palliative care in 1998 when she joined HCS as a home care nurse. Nicoleta organises, supervises and teaches palliative care at all three levels of education: basic, advanced and specialised; she coordinates the national specialization programme for nurses working in palliative care services and is also involved in education in several Eastern European countries. She continues to perform her clinical duties in the ambulatory clinic. Since 2016, she has run marathons to fundraise for free-of-charge care of children and adult patients, and their families. Dr. Mitrea constantly proves herself in terms of professional clinical competencies, knowledge proficiencies, educational, leadership and advocacy capabilities. She believes in investing in the nurses, making the most of the time available, stepping out of her comfort zone, and going beyond limits. Dr. Mitrea completed a multidisciplinary Master Program in Palliative Care and the Doctoral Studies.
