Marlene McHugh is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Columbia University where she also maintains a faculty practice.

She was one of the founding members of the Palliative Care Service at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY. Ms. McHugh has a clinical nursing background in medical surgical nursing, oncology, critical care and as well as primary care.

Dr. McHugh completed a fellowship in Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center, NYC. She is a certified ELNEC Trainer and completed the Wharton Nursing Leaders Program in 2011. Dr. McHugh has presented globally on the topic of palliative care and published numerous articles and chapters on pain and palliative care. At Columbia University she directs a DNP Fellowship and online program in PCARE for NPs and has developed interdisciplinary palliative care education. In 2014 she was inducted as a Fellow in Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing by HPNA and in 2019 she was the recipient of the ANA-NY award for excellence in practice.

She received her graduate degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner and her doctoral degree from Columbia University and she hold a post master’s certificate as an Adult Geriatric/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Pennsylvania.
