Voncella McCleary-Jones is Professor and Associate Dean of Academic, Faculty & Student Affairs in the College of Health Professions at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.

Dr. McCleary-Jones directs academic affairs in the college, and is immediate past chair of its School of Nursing. Her academic leadership experience includes roles as Masters Nursing Education Program Director and interim Assistant Dean for Educational Excellence in the College of Nursing at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. McCleary-Jones’s research includes health literacy, minority health, and nursing education foci; significantly impacting the scientific body of knowledge related to the concept of health literacy, and contributing to health literacy knowledge base and understanding of students, nurses, and faculty. Her work has informed research of national and international colleagues in nursing and other disciplines.

Dr. McCleary-Jones is a Harvard Macy Scholar, and Fellow of the NLN’s Academy of Nursing Education. Her professional service includes vice president of the Association of Black Nursing Faculty, NLN ANEF Reviewer, AACN Professional Development Conference Planning Subcommittee, and NLN Nominations Committee.

Dr. McCleary-Jones holds a PhD from the University of Oklahoma, a M.S. from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and BSN from North Carolina Central University.
