Jiale (Gary) Hu is an Assistant Professor and Director of Research and Global Outreach in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Previously, Dr. Hu worked as an anesthesia nurse and executive director of nursing research at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital in China. Dr. Hu’s overall research interests lie in knowledge translation in health care settings, particularly in anesthesia and pain management settings. His research program is focused on international collaboration in nurse anesthesia education and evidence dissemination, pain assessment in patients who cannot give self reports, and leading changes in complex systems.

Dr. Hu earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Clinical Medicine from the School of Nursing at Shanghai Jiaotong University in China and a Doctoral Degree of Philosophy at the University of Ottawa School of Nursing in Canada.
