Shelby L. Garner is an Associate Professor at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She is the Primary Investigator and Project Director for an international multidisciplinary research program to design, implement, and evaluate strategies to build nurse and health system capacity in India which led to the procurement of over $2.3 million dollars in funding to improve health equity and build nurse leaders in India. Over the past 10 years, she has led teams of researchers through the grant writing process to secure funding to build 3 centers of excellence.
As a Fulbright Scholar, PI, and US Project Director for these centers, Dr. Garner oversaw their construction and led teams to design, implement, and research simulation and mHealth technologies to be used within the centers and surrounding communities. Dr. Garner teaches and mentors nurse educators and other researchers in India through the research process and collaborates with them to co-author presentations and manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals to promote dissemination and replication of best practices in simulation and mHealth research. She leads faculty and students on immersive trips to India annually to participate in research studies and mentors related student presentations on the local, national, and international level.
