Dr. Angela Cooper Brathwaite is a Past President of Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), Co-Chair of the Anti-Black Racism Task Force of RNAO and Associate Graduate Faculty Member, Health Sciences, Ontario Technology University. Dr. Cooper Brathwaite has extensive experience in leadership, nursing administration, nursing education, policy advocacy, and cultural competence and has been a keynote speaker at national and international conferences.
As a co-chair of the RNAO Black Nurses Task Force, she has co-facilitated 11 monthly webinars on Anti-Black Racism for nurses, nursing students and the broader nursing community, between June 2020 and November 2021; submitted a resolution on racism to be included in undergraduate nursing programs in Ontario, which was passed at the RNAO Annual General Meeting in 2022; published two peer-reviewed articles on systemic racism and discrimination in nursing in professional journals; and presented keynote addresses on Racism in Nursing at webinars/conferences to nursing students and academics at provincial and international conferences. She has given numerous TV, radio, and newspaper interviews on racism in nursing and mentors graduate students on their theses. She holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Toronto and a Master of Nursing from the University of Manitoba, Canada.
