Katie A. Chargualaf is an Associate Professor and the Ione Wells Hanley/Bank of America Endowed Chair in Nursing at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Certified as a medical-surgical nurse through the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, Dr. Chargualaf has experience teaching in accelerated and traditional pre-licensure nursing programs as well as RN-BSN programs. She maintains programs of research focusing on military nurses, veterans, nursing education, and nurse retention. Dr. Chargualaf co-edited a resource book for nurse faculty entitled, Veteran-Centered Care in Education and Practice that was awarded the Sigma Theta Tau Capstone International Nursing Book Award and the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year in 2021. Dr. Chargualaf previously co-coordinated an award-winning academic-practice partnership addressing health disparities in the kidney and liver transplant populations in South Texas yielding significant reductions in early hospital readmission rates. She is an Amy V. Cockcroft Nursing Leadership fellow through the Center for Nursing Leadership at the University South Carolina.
Dr. Chargualaf received her Diploma in Nursing from Bon Secours Memorial School of Nursing, her BSN from South Dakota State University, her MSN from the University of Phoenix, and her PhD from the University of Hawaii at Mañoa.
