Gail Bagwell is an Education Nurse Specialist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Clinical Instructor at The Ohio State University College of Nursing and President of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.
Dr. Bagwell’s scholarship and advocacy centers on her clinical expertise of caring for preterm and high-risk neonates and their families, specializing in Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and Safe Sleep. She has disseminated her work through numerous presentations, videos, media events and publications, and was recognized by the Ohio March of Dimes as the Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year in 2017.

Dr. Bagwell was elected to the National Association of Neonatal Nurses Board of Directors in 2015 and became President in 2020. During her tenure, she led the association to create the Safe Sleep Guideline for neonates. She has published in several neonatal nursing textbooks that are used internationally. She acts as a Project Hope mentor to faculty in Malawi, works with the Council of International Neonatal Nurses, and the Alliance for Global Neonatal Nursing to improve the quality of neonatal care and education for all neonatal nurses especially those in low income countries.

Dr. Bagwell received her BSN from West Virginia Wesleyan College, her MSN from the University of Cincinnati and her DNP from Chatham University.
