Captain Wanza Bacon serves in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Rockville, Maryland as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps.USPHS’s mission is to promote, protect and advance the health and safety of the Nation.

CAPT Bacon serves as the Director of the Public Health Emergency Strike Team (PHERST) and as a Senior Advisor to the Readiness and Deployment Branch (RDB). She directs all (6,0000) personnel, administrative, operations, readiness, deployment, and policy functions for PHERST and RDB. She previously served as Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Regional Supervisor, Region IV within the Bureau of Health Workforce, Division of Regional Operation. She strategically directed HRSA programs in the largest of ten HHS Regional Offices, strengthening the health workforce and improving health care access to an estimated 65.7 million in underserved, high-need areas. Concurrently, she served as a leader, clinician, and patient advocate during twenty USPHS responses to hurricanes and other public health threats/emergencies including Ebola and COVID 19.

CAPT Bacon holds a Doctor of Public Health, Walden University, a Master of Business Administration, Brenau University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing.
